Athens and the Greek Islands
Sunday June 14: Transatlantic overnight flight from USA.
Monday June 15: We arrive in Athens, and begin our journey with an orientation tour of Athens.
Tuesday June 16: Our adventure begins this morning as we visit Acropolis, walk to Plaka (the oldest part of Athens, under the Acropolis) for lunch and time to relax, before our late afternoon visit to the National Archeological Museum
Wednesday June 17: We begin our day with the ferry from Athens to the island of Naxos. Visit the Naxos Castle and enjoy the spectacular sunset from the temple of Apollo (Portara).
Thursday, June 18: On the island of Naxos, we visit to the village of Sagri (Temple of Demetra), village of Halki, Maragas beach. Lunch at Manolis Tavern - local cuisine tasting, and time to enjoy the beautiful azure waters.
Friday June 19: We venture further in Naxos and visit to the village of Moni (visit to olive oil factory, textiles and weaving workshops, visit to the school of the village, cooking workshop and lunch at Irene’s tavern.) We step back to the 6th Century as we visit the Byzantine Church of Panagia Drosani. As the afternoon winds down, we relax as we discover Saint Prokopios beach.
Saturday June 20: Day trip to visit to the islands of Delos and Mykonos.
Sunday June 21: Mass at the Catholic Cathedral, visit the castle of Chora and Cycladic Museum. We take the afternoon to explore Saint George beach.
Monday June 22: Day trip to the island of Tinos.
Tuesday June 23: Visit the village of Apiranthos (Geological Museum of Naxos), and the village of Apollon, and Kouros of Apollon.
Wednesday June 24: Sailing trip to southern beaches of the island of Naxos.
Thursday June 25, Return to the city of Athens, via ferry. Attend Athens Festival performance at the ancient Odeon Herodes Atticus.
Friday June 26: Day trip to Delphi and Galaxidi.
Saturday June 27: Constitution Square – Changing of the Guard, and Plaka with the afternoon at leisure, perhaps last minute shopping? Farewell dinner at Kalokerinos, one of the oldest and most traditional Greek tavernas, situated in the heart of Plaka,
Sunday June 28: We head to the Athens Airport for our return to the USA.
